Dental X-rays
Dental X-rays (radiographs) are images of the teeth that your kid dentist in Wellington uses to evaluate your child's oral health. These X-rays are used with low levels of radiation to capture images of the interior of your teeth and gums. This can help your pediatric dentist in West Palm Beach to identify problems in your kid, like cavities, tooth decay, and impacted teeth.
There are different types of x-rays and each of them has his own objective. The most common x-rays used in children dental office are:
Periapical radiograph: It shows all teeth in one portion, from the crown, to beyond the root where the tooth attaches into the jaw. This x-ray detects any unusual changes in the root and surrounding bone structures.
Occlusal radiograph: This radiography is larger and shows full tooth development and placement. Each X-ray reveals the entire arch of teeth in either the upper or lower jaw. Occlusal X-rays show the roof or floor of the mouth and are used to find extra teeth, teeth that have not yet broken through the gums, jaw fractures, a cleft palate, cysts, abscesses or growths. Occlusal X-rays may also be used to find a foreign object.
Bitewing radiograph: It is commonly used to examine for interdental caries and recurrent caries under existing restorations. This x-ray shows both the upper and lower set of teeth, as well as provides a high level of detail and the capability to enhance an image, dentists can easily examine slides for conditions like cavities between teeth, tartar on tooth roots, weakened or broken fillings and crowns and receding bone
Panoramic radiograph. This type of film provides a complete view of your upper and lower jaw in a single picture and helps the dentist understand your bite and the relationship between the different teeth and your arch.
