Is your child nervous about their upcoming visit here at Toothtown Pediatrics? Fortunately we’re here to suggest to you, mom and dad, a few simple tricks that might make your little one more receptive about visiting the dentist! So don’t begin to fear yourself! Some fun general facts about tooth care will solve your problem and also spark your child’s curiosity with little bits of trivia. The fun and amusement that comes with our upcoming ‘magic tricks’ are capable of peaking at their interest. As a result, your child won't be so scared of pediatric dentistry anymore!
Start playing dentist at home and once they get to the real place they’ll be more than excited after all the practice they have done! Think about how small your child is, the noises are fairly unusual, the grown-ups are dressed funny, and the smells are not like anything experienced at home or school. This is why it is important to get a child acquainted with some of the little details common to dental appointments.
It won’t hurt to buy a small dental mirror online, or a play set and play ‘pretend’ dentist. Hand them the mirror and the ‘counting stick’ and ask your child to count your teeth. Allow them to give an opinion, “How does mommy’s teeth look? Are they all healthy or does she need a cleaning?” If you have fillings point them out and explain that these are to be avoided, but you must explain why. If you are going to educate a child about dental procedures, it is important to explain in a way which does not introduce fear. Yes, fillings are for naughty teeth, but sometimes they are important.
FUN FACT! Unlike bones or other parts of the body, teeth aren’t capable of self-repair. This is why receiving fillings and other dental work is necessary to protect teeth from any damage.
