Fluoride plays a role in preventing cavities in different ways. Fluoride promotes tooth remineralization and helps to make teeth more decay resistant. It, also, has antibacterial properties. It plays an important role in kids under a children pediatric dentist supervision.

You may never have heard of it but there's a process called "remineralization" that plays a giant role in helping to slow down the rate of cavity formation. It's a bit like tooth decay in reverse. What takes place is that instead of the situation where mineral content is leached from a tooth, minerals are deposited back onto tooth areas where mineral content has been lost. Fluoride ions in a person's mouth (like from fluoridated drinking water, toothpaste or rinses) gets adsorbed onto the surface of teeth in areas where demineralization has occurred. Once fluoride has been deposited onto the tooth's surface, it attracts other minerals (like calcium) to the damaged area.

A new type of tooth mineral is created. Most of a tooth's mineral content takes the form of hydroxyapatite and carbonated hydroxyapatite. The type of tooth mineral that's created during the remineralization process when fluoride is present is fluorapatite. Fluorapatite is able to withstand a more acidic environment before it begins to dissolve away.

Research has shown that when dental biofilms contain just 1 to 5 ppm of fluoride it inhibits the metabolism, growth, multiplication and adhesion of the kinds of bacteria that cause cavities.

Fluoride varnish is helpful for all infants and children at least once every six months, especially kids at higher risk for tooth decay because of the positioning of their teeth. There are some risks of fluoride use, such as fluorosis, which can cause tooth discoloration. Visiting the Children dentistry in Royal Palm Beach every six month for cleaning and checkup and having fluoride treatment will help to reduce the risk of cavities, as well as, to prevent the risk of fluorosis in kids under 8 years old.

Plaque acids are one of the main causes of tooth decay. They are produced after we eat or drink by bacteria that live in our mouths. Bacteria, acid, food particles, and saliva all combine in your mouth and cause the plaque.

Plaque acids attack the teeth and dissolve important minerals on their surface. This weakens the teeth and can lead to decay over time. Cavities and tooth decay are among the world's most common health problems. They're especially common in children and teenagers. Even infants can have cavities. A children dentist can help you to detect the first stage of cavities. And treated before they get worst.

Saliva plays a significant role in maintaining oral health, helping to build and maintain the health of soft and hard tissues. When saliva flow is reduced, oral health problems such as dental caries and oral infections can develop. Saliva is an exocrine solution consisting of 99% water. It contains Important elements such as bicarbonate, calcium and phosphate. They not only neutralize plaque acids, but also help repair early tooth damage and decay. It rinses away bacteria in the mouth and neutralizes acids that could wear down the tooth enamel and cause cavities

A dry mouth can occur when the salivary glands in the mouth don't produce enough saliva. This is often the result of dehydration, which means you don't have enough fluid in your body to produce the saliva you need.

It's important to visit a Pediatric Dentist in West Pam Beach to have regular dental checkups and cleanings every 6 months, even when the mouth feels and looks fine.

Primary teeth start developing in the fetus (unborn baby) at about 6 weeks of pregnancy (gestation). They harden between the third and sixth month. A baby's healthy smile begins with a balanced diet while baby still in the womb. The mother’s diet should have adequate amount of calcium, phosphorus, vitamin C and vitamin D. What the mother eats during pregnancy affects the development of the baby teeth.

Certain medicines (Tetracycline and Doxycycline) can affect the development of your child's teeth and should not be taken during gestation. They can cause discolored on the unborn baby teeth, as well as, damage to unborn babies’ bones.

Hormonal changes during pregnancy can cause some pregnancy gingivitis that can affect the health of your growing baby. Also, Caregivers with untreated cavities can spread the bacteria through the transfer of saliva causing the infant to have cavities. Baby teeth are particularly vulnerable to decay.

The American Dental Association and the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry near me recommend that the first dental visit should be by age 1 or within six months after the first tooth erupts. Schedule your infant first Children Dentist in Royal Palm Beach appointment today.

A primary tooth or baby tooth usually remains in the child's mouth until a permanent tooth underneath it is ready to emerge through the gums. They save space for the for the child's future permanent teeth (adult teeth) and guide the adult teeth into their proper position. These first teeth play an important role in how children learn to chow, speak and smile. They are also very important to a child's physical, emotional, and social development.

Tooth brushing can begin as soon as baby's first tooth pokes through the gums. Use a clean, damp washcloth, a gauze pad, or a finger brush to gently wipe clean the first teeth and the front of the tongue, after meals and at bedtime. A children dentist can help you to take care of your infant’s teeth since the moment they erupted.

Infection in baby teeth can pass and affect permanent teeth. Tooth decay on the top front teeth of an infant or small child is called Early Childhood Caries. This decay may look like white spots, dark pits, holes or broken teeth and may be painful making it hard for your child to eat.

Regular oral care routines establish life-long benefits for both babies and permanent teeth. habits. Visit a pediatric dentist in West Palm Beach early in the child’s growing years can help avoid unnecessary decay and dental treatment later.

The truth is that baby teeth DO matter!

Babies began to suck on their fingers or thumbs even before they are born. This type of sucking is completely normal for babies and young children. It is comforting for children, and they usually do it when they are bored, tired, worried or feeling stressed.

Thumb sucking is one of the most common forms of several sucking habits that affect the shape of the mouth and alignment of the teeth.

Chronic thumb or finger sucking can have a host of serious health and developmental consequences. Dental harm: prolonged sucking can cause the teeth to protrude, requiring expensive dental work to correct. Bullying: bullies often target kids who suck their thumbs or fingers. This can be very traumatizing or stressful for them. Frequent illness: unwashed thumbs and fingers bring bacteria and viruses into the mouth, which can lead to illness.

It is important to stop the thumb sucking habit before permanent teeth begin to come in. Most children stop sucking habits on their own between two- and four-years age, but some children need help of their parents and their pediatric dentist in West Palm Beach. When your child is old enough to understand the possible results of a sucking habit, your pediatric dentist near me can encourage your child to stop, as well as talk about what happens to the teeth if your child does not stop. This advice, couple with the support from parents, helps most children quit. If this approach does not work, your children dentist may recommend an appliance that blocks sucking habits. This device can help stop thumb sucking within a few days.

Regular check-up every six months will help your kid’s pediatric dentist carefully watch the way your child’s teeth come in and jaws develop, keeping the sucking habits in mind at all times.
